How to convert WebP to JPG

Drop your WebP file onto the box above, or click to choose one. The tool shows its size and dimensions, converts on your click, and shows the JPG size before the download. Everything runs locally in your browser: no upload, no queue, no account, and the file is ready in seconds.

When WebP to JPG is the right move

WebP was designed for websites, and it shows the moment you try to use a WebP file anywhere else. Email clients strip it or show a broken icon, older phones refuse it, office software cannot insert it, and plenty of upload forms accept only JPG and PNG. JPG is the opposite: it is the most widely supported image format on earth. If a human or a form needs to open your image without fuss, JPG is the answer.

JPG also wins on size for photos. Where a PNG of the same image might weigh several megabytes, the JPG lands in the hundreds of kilobytes, small enough for email attachments, profile pictures, marketplace listings and documents with strict upload limits.

How the conversion works

The browser decodes your WebP into a full grid of pixels, then encodes that grid as a JPG at 92 percent quality. Two changes happen in that step. Lossy compression discards detail your eyes are unlikely to miss, which is where the size saving comes from. And because JPG has no transparency channel, any transparent areas in the WebP are set onto a white background. WebP metadata does not carry across, so the JPG is a clean, standard file any system can read.

Quality tips for WebP to JPG

  • Convert from the original WebP. Saving a screenshot of the image, or converting a copy of a copy, starts from worse pixels. Always use the file you originally saved.
  • Choose PNG for graphics with text. JPG softens sharp edges slightly. Screenshots, diagrams and logos with small text stay crisper as PNG.
  • Remember the white background. A transparent product shot becomes a white box image as JPG. That suits most listings, but check it matches your page design.
  • Keep the WebP if the image lives on your website. WebP is the better web format. Convert to JPG only for sharing, submitting or using the image outside the web.

A worked example

A seller saves product photos from her supplier portal, but they arrive as WebP and the marketplace uploader rejects them with a format error. She converts the set here: each 200 KB WebP becomes a roughly 260 KB JPG that the marketplace accepts immediately, with no visible change to the photos her customers see.

Need lossless instead? The WebP to PNG converter keeps every pixel and the transparency. The Image Converter handles JPG and PNG inputs too.

Frequently asked questions

Why convert WebP to JPG instead of PNG?

Compatibility plus size. JPG opens in every app, form and device, and for photos it stays far smaller than PNG. If you do not need transparency or lossless editing, JPG is the practical choice.

What happens to transparent areas in my WebP?

JPG cannot store transparency, so see through areas are placed on a white background during conversion. If the transparency matters, convert to PNG instead, which keeps it.

Will the JPG look worse than the WebP?

At the 92 percent quality used here, photos look the same to the eye. You may notice slight softening around sharp text or logos, which is normal for JPG. For graphics with fine detail, PNG is the safer target.
